Next step - Registration Open Now!

The next cohort begins this fall and is limited to 9 participants!
Next Step is a 3 month holistic counseling group for adults looking for what to do next in their lives.

Do you feel:

Tired
Depressed
Anxious
Discouraged
Frustrated
Lost
Like your true self is hiding...

This feeling is often called the "midlife crisis" or "quarter life crisis."
In reality, it is whenever you find yourself questioning your life's purpose and direction.

This group is more than just therapy, it is a complete program that over the course of 3 months will help you learn more about yourself, your values, and your relationships through a customized experience-expanding curriculum. You will volunteer, practice yoga, take classes and coursework that brings you out of your comfort zone.

In group therapy, these new experiences are processed with others seeking answers to the same question:
Where am I headed?

Phase One: (Month 1)
  • Personality, learning style, life satisfaction and mental health assessments.
Discover your learning style, personality type and set a baseline for tracking your improvement over the next six months. You'll also be developing goals to keep you centered and on track.
  • Coaching, Fitness and Nutritionist consultation.
Beginning in month one, you'll meet your life coach and fitness and nutrition consultant. Working together with your team, you'll become more active, learn how to tend to your individual dietary needs and start exploring your
  • Yoga and mindfulness meditations (you'll get all the neurobiology background on why this works.)
You may be a yogi already, or maybe you've never tried it at all - the connection between mind and body is so powerful we've dedicated part of the curriculum to it's focus. By tending to your body, your mind will become more flexible and resilient.
  • Weekly counseling group meetings.
Big life changes don't come easily. That's why your cohort will meet weekly in group counseling with a psychotherapist, to get into the deeper parts of this transformative work.
  • Wilderness Weekend Experience
As you make these big changes, we will seek the support and healing power of the great outdoors (Colorado is ideal for this, didn't we luck out here?) These weekends will be 1-2 nights with hiking, nature based healing work (it actually helps to regulate your nervous system!) and lots of time around the campfire. This first experience will help prep you for your mid-term wilderness solo.

Phase Two: (Month 2)
  • Volunteer Placement
Volunteering in and of it's self can be life changing. We will help place you at a volunteer site which will make use of your talents and help give you a different perspective on your community. There you will work for the rest of the program, developing relationships and practicing the skills you learn in the group.
  • Group book club and readings.
Along with the one-on-one group and coaching time, we will be going through several books that will support the development of the psyche and soul. Our favorite authors include Brene Brown, Pema Chodron, Stephen Grosz, Scott Kauffman and Don Miguel Ruiz. .
  • Continued coaching and weekly group meetings.
Did we mention yet that we've developed a custom journal and a binder full of information and resources for this program?
  • Wilderness mid-term retreat and solo.
"Solo" means alone. In this phase you'll spend one night at base camp with the group, and the second night alone. 24 hours of isolation may seem daunting, or it may seem exciting (or both at the same time!) The solo experience is a transformative time alone where you have the time and space to truly meet yourself and process the growth that's already happening within. Preparation for this experience will begin one month prior, and will include basic risk assessment and emergency planning, breathing and meditation skill development to help you get the most out of your time.

Phase Three: (Month 3)
  • Repeat assessments and progress report.
Your team will administer a second round of assessments so you can see how you've changed over the past few months. You'll also have a special sit down with the therapist to look at individual goal progress.
  • Groups, volunteering and more.
As we enter the home stretch we will keep the experience-expanding theme moving through new classes, invited speakers and new readings. Volunteering, weekly counseling groups and fitness/nutrition work will continue right through to the end.
  • Final wilderness retreat and closing ceremony.
This final weekend will be a chance for us to solidify the new life we've created and say good bye to this phase of change and growth. You are encouraged to invite a partner or loved one to attend as a witness to what you've gone through and what there is still left for you to accomplish. You will leave this weekend (and this program) with a sense of vision and purpose, with new skills and resources, and attack your future with integrity and strength.

Answered Questions...
"What can I expect from this group?"

We believe that growth occurs through self reflection and exploration. This group is a commitment to just that. If you immerse yourself in the process, we can promise that you will walk away with a new understanding of yourself and your place in the world. You may develop a vision for the rest of your life, discover hidden talents and strengths, conquer road blocks and learn new ways to relate to your world.

"Why the group counseling sessions?"

When you join this group you are becoming part of a community of seekers. As you learn about yourself, your experiences and perspectives will benefit every other member of the group. As part of a group, you will get support through the tough times, and find accountability with others who are on the same journey.

"What is a wilderness retreat or solo experience?"

We live in a world of intensity and distraction. Nature offers our minds the chance to rest in a way that gently calls our attention, promotes a healthy nervous system and offers insight into our true selves. Each wilderness retreat will capitalize on Colorado's beautiful natural spaces and give the group time to develop in the healthiest environment possible. Solo experiences, or time alone in nature, can be transformative - So much that we've intentionally designed this program to include preparation and space for your time alone.
