New! - Student DBT Skills Group
Designed especially for students at School of Mines, this group is open to college students and high school seniors.
What is DBT? Dialectical Behavior Therapy is what we all should have learned in middle school - how to make and keep friends without compromising your values, how to manage big emotions, and how to get the most out of your life by increasing your ability to choose. DBT has several modules, starting with Core Mindfulness. Mindfulness exercises are a part of every group and become second nature in your daily life. Interpersonal Effectiveness teaches how to navigate tough relationships and get what you need. Distress Tolerance is all about how to ride the waves of BIG emotions. And Emotion Regulation is just that - how to regulate emotions. This group will be an Adventure - very experiential, with games and exercises to help practice the skill and build a solid support network. Join by email now! |
Women's Climbing Therapy Group (Closed for 2019) |
Group DetailsWeek 1: Learn to low-angle rappel, belay your partner, tie knots, while exploring choice and consent.
Week 2: We visit the same location twice in a row. We change, but the rock doesn't. Compare and contrast who you became since week 1, and learn footwork and energy saving techniques. Week 3: Hone your slab climbing skills, and learn how to breathe while climbing and while relaxed. Week 4: Return to slab climbing, and learn the basics of self rescue while practicing how to sound the "all clear" signal and let your nervous system return to "rest." Week 5: Learn how to rappel and different techniques for protecting yourself near the edge, and how to ground yourself in an unfamiliar environment. Week 6: Possible night climb - get out your head lamps and experience what it's like to climb at sunset while the stars appear Week 7: Visit our final location and test your metal while crack and off-width climbing. Week 8: This week we will revisit all the techniques and insights we've gained over the summer. We'll get to close together as a group and celebrate how far we've come. |
