wild & wonderful Life Counseling

Life is an adventure, shouldn't your therapy be an adventure too?
Individual counseling sessions last 60-120 minutes. Our preferred meeting places and office are in Golden, Colorado and surrounding open spaces. Alternative counseling locations and activities such as hiking or climbing are discussed and planned in advance.
Our approach with each individual client is unique, just like you are unique. We use an experiential style during therapy, and will resource Transactional Analysis, Somatic psychology, Gestalt, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. We might play games, make art, move around lots, sit still and talk, or take a walk through the park.
What does "adventure" mean?
Adventure therapy is the intentional use of present-moment experience in individual or group counseling. This means that we may suggest things that reach beyond the traditional office setting. Your safety is my utmost priority, and because of that, bigger things like climbing usually only happen after we get to know one another well, and have done the preparation work needed to get the most out of the climbing experience. We also love meeting in open spaces, playing jenga, looking for rocks, sitting by water and making friends with trees.
What can I expect?
Consultation Session (1):
As we progress through the therapy process, you will notice that we assign homework! We only get one hour per week together, and homework helps you make the most out of what we learn in session, and gives you more opportunities to "Re-Create" your life.
Important Note:
Often in therapy, you begin to feel worse before you feel better. This is because in therapy, we challenge the beliefs that are holding you back, keeping you depressed and anxious, or caught in the cycle of addiction or unstable relationships. These are the beliefs that have held you up your whole life, and when they are challenged it does not feel good. As we work through this together, you will gain the insight and ability to choose new beliefs, ones that serve you and help you get the whole and healthy life you deserve.
And finally, you can expect an open and compassionate presence from us. The therapeutic relationship is the perfect place to learn about yourself and explore what it means to be human. That means we welcome your human self, and we invite ourselves into the room as well. We might not always say the right thing (this is very very likely), but it is in these moments that we get the chance to be real, be human, and work towards repairing our relationship - a practice that is sadly uncommon in most relationships today. Through this repair, we ourselves also heal.

Consultation Session (1):
- We will begin by discussing your fee, the consent for services and counseling agreement forms you will be signing, how we will be communicating, and even what to do in case of bad weather.
- The next step is to get some background information. The more I know about you, the better, and a background interview gives me the chance to ask some questions that might not naturally come up.
- We will create some personalized goals based on your needs, and that we can use to stay on track.

Psychedelic Assisted Therapy
As part of our therapeutic services, we offer medicine assisted work! We are so excited to be able to offer this innovative approach to our clients. Psychedelic-assisted therapy is not a new concept. Academics have found evidence of plant medicines in sacred ceremonies and mainstream religions across the globe, going back a thousand years and more. Modern psychedelic assisted work has broken through the constraints of politics and come back to the surface because of the persistence of organizations like MAPS and Innate Path. We strive to uphold the legal and ethical boundaries that will allow continued research and progress in the field. This means we work exclusively with Cannabis and prescribed Ketamine - both powerful entryways into the deep psyche - and we look forward to when other substances can be accessed by professionals.

We believe that our bodies already know how to process trauma. Our bodies are capable of this on our own, once we confront the barriers to processing that have developed over time. With the addition of medicine, that pathway becomes more easily available, and it can complement the therapy we are already doing.
